About

Mauritius Uncovered has been set up to provide information on Mauritius. Although only a small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius was once the home of the now extinct Dodo and has been referred to by many as the Paradise Island.

Mauritius has a population of around 1.4 million people and is a multi-cultural society. The majority of the population is hindu and the rest are muslim, tamil, chinese and christians. Festivals for all the cultures are celebrated throughout the year.

The official language used in Mauritius is English, however the most spoken language is Creole (broken French) followed by French and Hindi (dialects like bhojpuri). Although you will find that most people will either speak in Creole or French, mostly everyone can speak and understand English. This makes it really easy for tourists looking for information especially since Mauritians are very friendly.

Many people who have visited Mauritius have been amazed by its beauty – the greenery, the scenery, the turquoise lagoon and white sandy beaches. This is not everything what the country has to offer and you will need to experience it as words cannot describe the feeling of being there and seeing it all with your own eyes.

Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of information on the web regarding Mauritus and this is what this website is trying to do – bridging the gap for information. So whether you’re visiting Mauritius during your holiday or considering living on that beautiful island, you will find everything you need here. Of course, if there’s something that we haven’t covered here, please let us know and we’ll try our best to get the information to you.
